The first use of Frit was known as "Egyptian Blue" and was found in a tomb painting in Saqqara dated to 2900 BC.   The frit was a composition of materials that were heated and then powdered to make a dye.   In our case, the "frit" is a powdered composition of materials embedded in the glass to give the glass a colorful design and powderlike interior fused directly inside the glass.
